On International Transgender Day of Visibility 2026, Governor Tony Evers sent a powerful message of inclusion to every corner of Wisconsin. Surrounded by advocates and LGBTQ+ youth at the State Capitol, Evers vetoed a slate of five Republican-backed bills. These measures sought to restrict gender-affirming healthcare, mandate birth-assigned sex for school sports, and regulate student pronouns in classrooms.
Calling the legislation a threat to the "safety and dignity" of trans and nonbinary kids, the governor reaffirmed his "unwavering support" for a more inclusive Wisconsin. While these vetoes provide immediate relief, the moment serves as a rallying cry for ongoing visibility and community action in the face of rising legislative challenges across the country.
