From the NEW Pride Team ....
This was an incredibly difficult call to make, especially so close to the event, and we are truly sorry for the disruption this causes for you and your plans.
Below is our official public statement, shared here in full:
In response to the recent rise in hostile rhetoric, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming Pride event. This is not a decision we take lightly. Our team works tirelessly year-round to create this space, and no one is more disappointed than we are to have to make this change.
Pride is more than a celebration; it is a movement born out of the fight for equality and safety. For many in our community, this event is one of the few times they can gather openly and feel truly safe being their authentic selves. Because our Pride is one of the few that takes place in September, it can draw particular attention at a time when tensions are high. We have a responsibility to ensure that our space remains safe and welcoming for everyone.
We want to be clear: this is not a retreat. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to providing a space where everyone can feel confident and affirmed. We will share further updates as we determine a new date and venue. Thank you for your understanding and support. Let us use this moment to come together more united and stronger than ever as a community. We look forward to celebrating with you soon.
We know how much work goes into preparing for Pride Fest, from setting up booths to preparing products and coordinating teams, and we are very sorry to share this news so close to the festival date.
Please know that we are working diligently to secure a new date and venue that will allow us all to celebrate together safely. We look forward to celebrating with you, stronger, prouder, and united, at the new NEW Pride Fest.
With appreciation and pride, The NEW Pride Team
